What’s needed to be a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator in Queensland in 2020?

Changes in what is needed to be a RRTWC in Queensland.

Some changes have occurred around what is needed to be a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator in Queensland.

One of the main things to consider is that from July 1 2020 an employer is required to provide the details to their insurer of who their Rehabilitation Coordinator is. This information must include the person’s name and contact details, information on how they’ve become appropriately qualified, and the workplaces in which they are appointed as the rehabilitation coordinator.

Qualifications for rehab and return to work coordinators.
The office of industrial relations will be providing information on what is considered to be appropriate qualifications for coordinator’s. This information is expected to come out in the first half of 2020. Essentially, ‘appropriately qualified’ means a person who has the qualifications or experience to perform the role. If you are currently engaged as a rehabilitation coordinator the things you will be able to consider for appropriate qualifications include –
– on the job training and experience;
– previously attained qualifications;
– professional development in the workplace.

Employees will also be able to demonstrate that the coordinator is qualified for the role by completing an approved qualification. These qualifications will not be mandatory but will be a way of demonstrating that a person can fulfill the role.

The KINNECT Training Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Course (BSBWHS407 Assist with claims management, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs) is designed to meet the needs for the role of a rehabilitation coordinator effectively and could be considered an appropriate qualification. Course information is available at KINNECT Training Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Course webpage.

More information on the requirements is also available in the Worksafe Queensland website and by referring to Section 226 Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019.

Information will also be available from the KINNECT Training website and if you’d like us to send you updates please fill in the contact form below.
