Is your Spirometry Quality Assurance up to standard?
Will your spirometry quality assurance stand up to scrutiny?
In the 2016 Review of Respiratory Component of the Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme investigation showed that quality assurance of spirometry testing was inadequate for more than 50% of sites.
How can you be sure your practice is meeting current standards?
To be accurate spirometry that is used for diagnosis must be quality assured and should only be performed by people who have been certified by recognised training bodies. KINNECT Training’s Spirometry Training course meets the standards stipulated by The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ). It also meets The Standards for Spirometry Training Courses for the delivery of Spirometry for Coal Mine Workers.
The course covers a theoretical component on quality assurance, as well as a hands-on component. This ensures you leave feeling confident in the areas of spirometry calibration, biological control and record keeping required to meet current standards.
Don’t know where to be begin with developing your QA program!
The equipment standard summary states that:
- The spirometer needs to meet international standards
- Calibration or verification using a certified syringe prior to each testing session or as per manufacturer’s recommendation should be performed
- Regular biological control checks from a healthy subject should be carried out
- Regular cleaning of equipment
- Maintenance of an equipment log
